Julie Fowlis is a groundbreaking artist who has taken her native Scottish Gaelic tradition to new audiences around the World. Brought up on North Uist in Scotland’s Outer Hebrides, Fowlis has been a proud standard bearer for Gaelic music and culture.
She is no stranger to awards: winning Gaelic Singer of the Year and Album of the Year (twice) at the Scots Traditional Music Awards. She was also appointed by the Scottish Parliament in 2008 to be Scotland’s first Gaelic Ambassador -‘Tosgaire na Gaidhlig’. She is indeed one of the country’s treasures.
For this tour, she’s backed by her husband Éamon Doorley, Dublin’s Tony Byrne, and fiddler Duncan Chisholm. This line-up has become synonymous with emotive, expressive and high energy live shows.
“Fowlis has changed the face of Scottish music by proving that an artist singing almost exclusively in Gaelic can become an international success and even break into Hollywood. What is more remarkable, however, is the way in which she has managed to move into the mainstream without compromising her approach” – The Guardian.
