Bruce Langereis camped on grass at the edge of a parking lot near the liquor store since Wednesday Nov. 4 to buy the ultra-rare bottle. How rare – this was the only bottle of 50 year old Glenfiddich for sale in Canada at the time.

After making sure he was first inline he bought the rare single malt for $36,000. The ultra-rare single malt is one of only 50 bottles available worldwide this year, and the only one to be sold in Canada.

The shop which sold the whisky – Signature BC Liquor Stores in Vancouver – warned buyers to arrive early to avoid disappointment. Bruce Langereis did not want to be disappointed so arrived four days early with a tent and a big wallet.

Bruce Langereis plans to sell the “showcase spirit” at his Rosewood Hotel Georgia’s Prohibition Bar.
